Love the Things You Love

“I saw that you were perfect and so I loved you. Then I saw that you were not perfect and I loved you even more.”    ―Angelita Lim

love the things you love hibiscus tilliaceus heart shaped leafMy friend Jabari, a Landscape Architect, chose these Hibiscus tilliaceus for our yard to make a hedge. He knew I wanted something vibrant that would grow fast. They were wonderful and mighty, and after a few years and another Florida hurricane season approaching, I was informed that I might be better off with them removed.

“They might break and fall on something, or fly,” so we took them out. It broke my heart because they were so beautiful. I just LOVED that glorious hedge so much that I picked one of the heart shaped leaves before it was removed and saved it on my inspiration wall for a long time.

He did design a different one, and it’s just gorgeous. This time he chose a Dutchman’s Pipe so we have lots of butterflies, too! It’s not surprising that I was attached to it, but I didn’t realize just how much I would be.

Sometimes you love the things you love—without explanation. 💚
