I live an hour from Miami. I haven’t been a huge fan mostly because my experiences in Miami have been sporting events and usually involve some crazy parking and traffic situations.
But… last week we got invited to an awesome dinner in Miami—complete with great people, beautiful weather, a mariachi band, AND a full moon. It was a hella good time. You could see the Mandarin Oriental across from where we were having dinner, and I was game to try this place I have heard so much about. With my husband’s birthday approaching, I was thinking now is my chance!
We booked our room at the Mandarin Oriental, which was spectacular and I highly recommend. We walked over the little bridge from Brickell Key and went to a small, surf & turf food truck to get some fresh stone crabs for lunch. They were fresh and fantastic, and—of course—gluten free. We walked all around Brickell Key and the Brickell area which was super cute and under A LOT of construction. I think it’s a wonderful place, and will be even more so after the construction!
The Brickell area in general was very artsy, sophisticated, and fun with much good food to enjoy. There were water views of Biscayne Bay everywhere you went—with lots of walking paths for fitness. I got my 4 miles, no problem.
For dinner we ate at the hotel’s Peruvian restaurant La Mar, and had some of the best food I’ve ever had in my life. No hyperbole! Mark had Criollo Ceviche, but our favorite was the Wagyu Beef with chimichurri, beans and rice tacu-tacu, quail egg and rocoto pepper sauce. Deeeelicious!
While in Miami, we also went for iced tea and Yuca Frite (fried yucca) at The River Oyster Bar. Great service with a smile, and a big menu if you are hungry (which we were not). The yucca was perfect, though the weather not-so-great. We needed a place to duck in, and they took good care of us. I look forward to going back!
